Regular Volunteer InformationBe A Crew LeaderBe A Family Partner
Habitat for Humanity houses are built from the ground up with volunteers from our community, who are supervised by Habitat's construction staff. Without volunteers, Habitat could not help low income families purchase affordable homes with a no-interest mortgage rate, so every volunteer counts. No experience is necessary, and individuals or groups are welcome to join the Habitat staff and future Habitat homeowners on Saturdays in building simple, decent homes...because everyone deserves a decent place to live!

Be A Crew Leader
We are in need of volunteers who are interested in becoming crew leaders on our construction sites. This would be a commitment to work with volunteer groups on Saturdays. See full description.

The Theology of the Hammer
The concept of the theology of the hammer is that our Christian faith mandates that we do more than just talk about faith...we must put faith and love into action to make them real. Habitat for Humanity volunteers build with low-income families, not for them, building bridges of understanding while eliminating poverty housing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to have construction experience to participate?
No, no construction experience is required. We need volunteers committed to working with a willingness to learn. But skilled volunteers are also welcome on the site. Please indicate any special skills when filling out a volunteer form.
Can I complete community service hours by volunteering for Habitat?
Yes. Becoming a regular volunteer is a great way to fulfill any community service hour requirements you have. Construction volunteers work 8 hour shifts, and there are always volunteer opportunities in our affiliate's office.
Can I volunteer if I'm under the age of 16?
You cannot participate in construction projects if you are under the age of 16, but there are many other volunteer projects available: landscaping, office projects, fundraising, and events.
When can I volunteer?
Regular construction volunteers work on Saturdays from 8:00am to 4:30pm. Often opportunities are available for skilled construction volunteers during the week, in the Habitat Jackson office during the week, or fundraising event, but you must call 601-353-6060, x208 to inquire about such volunteer opportunities.
Where are Habitat houses built?
Habitat houses are built in downtown Jackson neighborhoods. Maps are available on the Nehemiah Project page. Also, once a year we build a home in Rankin County. If you are interested in being involved with Mississippi Gulf Coast construction volunteering through Jackson's Hancock Project contact Erica Painter.
Can I only volunteer for house construction?
Habitat Jackson has many volunteer opportunities other than house construction. We frequently have events and fundraisers that need organizing and staffing. We also have landscaping projects for Habitat homes, a full-time cabinet shop that needs skilled volunteers, and other various projects in the Habitat office that are a great way to volunteer your time. |
