In 2002, custom homebuilder Tom Gipson had an idea.  Gipson partnered with the Habitat for Humanity affiliate in Raleigh, North Carolina, recruited 11 other builders and constructed 12 houses in just 5 days.  The following year, homebuilders in Raleigh completed 24 homes, and the project spread to Greensboro, North Carolina.

The seeds planted there are now spreading nationwide.  This year 1,000 homebuilders have pledged to build over 500 Habitat homes, 3 of which are right here in Jackson.

Habitat for Humanity asks that builders donate their labor and seek donations of supplies.  This model allows Habitat to keep its regular house-building efforts intact while bringing in new, highly skilled volunteers for the blitz, thus reaching more families in the Jackson community.  Homebuilders are challenged to complete the build in 5 days, working with their suppliers and subcontractors to deliver the houses at no cost to Habitat Jackson, so Habitat can sell the homes at no-profit to low income families in our community.
