HFH/MJ houses are sold with no profit made. Homeowners contribute "sweat equity" and house payments are recycled to build additional houses.

Qualifications

Applicant families must:

Live in sub-standard housing-  In order to partner with Habitat for Humanity/Metro Jackson a family must presently live in housing that is in adequate in some way:
• Present housing is dilapidated or in bad repair
• Your home is too small for your family and has become overcrowded
• Your cost of housing is a disproportionate amount of your monthly income

Have the ability to pay- Habitat for Humanity/Metro Jackson Homeowners buy their houses so they must be able to make a no-interest mortgage payment every month. Qualifications include:

• You have a history of paying bills and have good references
• Be working (same job) for at least one year
• Complete a background check
• Be able to make a $500 down payment
• Monthly mortgage payments, including principle, taxes & insurance and  maintenance escrow: $300-$400
• Debt must not be excessive
• No liens, judgments, active garnishments.

 
Have willingness to partner- Habitat Homeowners enter into a partnership with Habitat for Humanity/Metro Jackson. Family partnership requirements include:
• Sweat equity (labor on the work site) of 250 hours
• Agreement to attend homeowner preparation workshops:
• Homeowner Orientation Meeting
• Homebuyer’s Education Class
• Post Homebuyer’s Education Classes
• Homeowner’s Association Meetings
