Weatherization

The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) seeks to transform communities by serving the comprehensive needs of its low income residents. Habitat for Humanity/Metro Jackson (HFH/MJ) is working in partnership with the Mississippi Department of Human Services and Entergy Mississippi to improve the energy efficiency and, ultimately, the financial stability of the selected households.

This approach will address the needs of low-income families in a more holistic manner and provide more measurable outcomes. The partnership will identify and qualify 500 low-income homes for the WAP in communities within Entergy’s service area to make their homes more energy efficient.

Phase I will include 300 HFH/MJ homes in the Metro Jackson area, most of which are 10-15 years old and in need of general repair and weatherization.  HFH/MJ is currently doing repairs and maintenance on some of these existing homes through a Preservation Program made possible through a grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank.

WAP focuses primarily on assisting the elderly and disabled plus low-income families with young children. Entergy Mississippi will support community awareness events and provide additional training and services to sustain the energy efficiency of the homes.
